As some of you know, I just got a YZ250F. Well, 2nd and 3rd gear are pretty much the same. I almost thought I didnt click the shifter once because 3rd felt the same as 2nd gear.

Any advice on some new gearing to make 3rd gear more usable? I believe the stock gearing is 13f/49r. I think changing it to 13f/51r would do the job, right?

If they're very close right now, I'd imagine whatever new gearing you go with would keep them pretty similar to each other as well. A 13/51 setup would cause you to spend less time in 2nd gear, though. You'd rpm thru 1st and 2nd sooner.

A 13:51 would actually put 2nd & 3rd closer together. Going in the opposite direction on the front to rear sprocket ratio would make each gear farther apart. If you go too far though you loose torque, and being on a Yamahaha you don't have much to spare.
