Boots detroyed from starting 08 crf250r

    by dadigga » Tue Jan 08, 2008 8:22 am

Has anybody destroyed there right boot from starting there bike? I have fairly new tech 7's and the inside of my right boot is all mashed up. Every time i kick start, the peg digs in to the boot.

Is there a solution for this?

I had an 02 cr250 and i had no problems.

A buddy of mine has a 08 yz250f and cut up his boot also.

If you guys have ideas or mods that you've done..please share them

I was thinking about getting wider foot pegs so the kickstart won't go down as far. just a idea.

    thanks

I have the same problem. I'd love to hear a solution; I sure don't want to have to buy a new set of boots over this.

You could have them re-soled at a boot shop. Otherwise, don't kick so hard.

it's not the sole but the inner side of the boot.

The way the kickstart finishes it's stroke (close to the peg) tears up the inside of the boot.

Same problem here, made worse by aftermarket Ti pegs with sharp teeth. I just try to do my best to turn my foot outward. I could solve my problem if I'd ever get around to replacing my dead battery (450X).

I put a JB weld "patch" where my Alpinestars were chaffed. Along with the technique mentioned above, its holding up much better than the boot plastic. I have gray Alpinestars so it matches pretty decent.

Yep, I have a big hole on the side from me kicking my 06. I've learned to turn my foot out a little, but when I'm in a hurry is when I hit it. All Honda needed to do was make the kick starter a little longer. It really pisses me off. It should of never made it to the dealer like that.

If you have that much of an issue starting your bike, you have a problem. It should never take consistently more than 5 kicks cold, or 2 warm IMO. If so, get tuning.

So, using your numbers: 5 kicks from cold + 2 from warm multiplied by say 3 times out on the track multiplied by say 2 weekend rides a month = 22 times forcefully dragging your boot against sharp metal teeth = it ain't a tuning problem.

Same discussion 3 months ago. Thought it was my wide footpegs, but everyone seems to have the problem. It's a design thing, no fix that anyone knows of...

I wore a hole in my Fox forma pro boot. I did the old temporary fix with shoo goo which lasted till i could afford new boots. I then got some Siddi crossfires and they dont cut up at all they are the best boots you can get in my opinion and you can replace parts :o

if you really want to get shiesty then put your foot pointing slightly outward on the outside half of the lever...

if you dont want your foot to slip off every time you kick your bike then suck it up because you cant fix it. put a few layers of duct tape over your boot if you dont want wear.

I lost a set. B.I.L. lost a set. Design flaw. Honda needs to change something or start sending out replacement right boots. I have thought about loosing a spike or two on the peg. Starting isn't a problem as long as you follow the manual.
