    Switching to SS Valves?

    by Mikey350D » Sat Sep 29, 2007 11:50 am

(Sorry for another valve question :( )

    O7 CRF250: MX only: 14 y/o rider: 125 Junior.

Are there ANY problems running SS valve for serious MX application?
I'm on 2nd head and 3rd set of intake valves (stock) on '07.
Rider never hits rev limiter, but motor is always run hard. Bikes gets bookoo hours. Sell after 1 year

    Thanks

No problem at all. You won't notice any difference except you won't be changing your valves all the time.

Smith, do they really have that much more longevity? I'm about to do mine and I'm doing the research though SS are hard to get over here...

Give me a factor here; they last two times longer, three times? Guestimates?

I would use the longevity of the exhaust valves as an indicator. They are opening just as much as the intakes, they use the same valve seats, the same valve guides, yet they never seem to move.

I think they will last much longer, at least twice but most likely longer. There are some guys that are at 10,000 miles with SS valves and still going strong.

I run pretty hard. I got 8 months out of the OE stuff; that includes 3 shimmings. Since the SS swap, I have almost 2 full seasons and they haven't budged a bit since the break-in.

Consider me convinced. Sounds like much better bang for buck.

That's pretty impressive right there. You can see by how long the guy got out of his OEM set up which tells you that he does inded run pretty hard, and from his posts you can tell that the guy knows his stuff.
This is on of the real bonuses of the internet, what we can learn from each other, and after you've been doing it awhile you can just tell who really knows their stuff.
124 getting two whole seasons means buy the stainless valves if you're keeping the bike. Doug

    Oh, it's a keeper. I had an '01 YZ426F, a 112kg death machine, previously. The 250 is the goods.

My local Honda dealer will install if I source so I'm going the Faction MX intake kit @ US$165 + shipping. Honda quoted me about AU$150 (US$133) for ONE frickin SS valve over here. They can shove it.

    Air Filter Maintenance

    by fbr » Fri Oct 05, 2007 4:47 am

There is another variable affecting Ti and SS valve life equally, and that is air filter maintenance. Mechanics will tell you that they frequently see evidence of poor air filter maintenance when they are doing these cylinder head overhauls.
