    Stripped Valve Cover Threads

    by docwagoner » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:11 pm

So, I was checking my valve clearances...when I was re-installing my valve covers I stripped the threads in the head. I was using a torque wrench set to the proper settings and all. I put teflon tape on the bolt threads as a temporary fix, but after riding it I noticed a small amount of oil leakage where the valve cover meets the head. What do you guys suggest?

If there is a stripped out valve cover bolt hole I think I would look into drilling it slightly larger and putting in a heli coil or thread insert. I think the valve cover bolt threads are in the upper cam brg holder and I dont think you can get one separate from the cyl head.

I installed a heli-coil which fixed the problem. Thanks for the reply.
