Good OTD Price for '07 250R

    by Monkeywrench » Thu Jul 26, 2007 5:40 pm

    Hey guys,
I have been thinking of switching from the 250X to the 250R, and from many comments I have read, it sounds as if the '07 250R has made a few people's favorites list. As I continue to ponder the switch, I was wondering what a good price might be on an '07. I live in the North East (Southern New Jersey -- farm lands here). ;) Wondering at this late stage in the riding season if it might be better to wait until the '08 hits the floor, and try to gander down an '07??

Does out-the-door mean "after all fees, taxes, documentations" have been applied, or does it refer to the basic cost of the bike itself before all of those things? I doubt the dealer would ever let anyone see an invoice, to see just how much markup there is on these things. :? A friend of mine won't do business with any car dealership that won't show the invoice, but then again these things aren't cars, hmm? ;)

    Thank you for any advice!

    Hey Matt,

OTD means price includes all taxes, license, documentation and registration fees, and any applicable factory rebates.

In essence the total cost to get that bike out the door without any jail time.

In So Cal, OTD Cyclesport in Inglewood has the 2007 CRF 250R for $ 5899.00 OTD.

OK, thanks Agent. I thought that's what it meant.
I have been looking on e-Bay for new '07 250R's, just to scope out a price. Found 2 dealerships that are using e-Bay to pre-sell new bikes, but not necessarily at the "OTD" price... One listed an '07 at 4,999 in Buy It Now, then continues on to add almost $600.00 in mandatory taxes, dealer setup, destination fee, documentation... (prostate exam, wisdom teeth removal, lung reduction, colonoscopy)... Makes me wonder if some of these guys would try to sell you soot off the bottom of your own shoe if they had the chance! Just for walking across their showroom carpet!

    Agent and others:

Here in Southern NJ, just got a OTD price quote of $6100 -- anyone in the NJ/PA/Delaware area think that's a pretty good number? I'm just not sure either way, since I have only other NJ dealerships to compare to. Not sure if there is a way to get a NJ dealer to sell me one for the price you guys can get in SoCal - since they will all say something like, "well if you're into road trips, pack your sunscreen when you head out there".

Matt, that seems to be a decent price for this area. If you play hard to get, or one dealer against another, you might get it down to $6000. If you wait a little longer... they may give a better price still once the '08s are out.

I think Yamaha started showing some of the '08 bikes on their site.

Something about the '07 Honda you'd change? I'm curious, as I'm pondering switching from the X to the R (would either be the 250R or the 450R).

Well i would love for honda to get some sort of better valves in these bikes that don't lower the performance. Little less maintance would be very nice! But my 250 is a gun but i am lookings at a KTM maybe or the 450X. Honda have realesed alot of 08 models as well my brothers changing from a CRF150R to a 08 230 when there realesed here in australia. Simply the few problems it has and we've been doing alot more trail riding :D

    That's funny ! :D
There is no such thing as "Freight and set-up" charges.
The dealers pay nothing for the "freight" to have the bikes arrive at their dealership.
As far as "set-up" or "prep" goes each manufacturer pays an amount to the dealer, depending on what model it is, to assemble the bike and prepare it for use.
"Documentation", another frequent rip-off, should be no more than whatever your state charges to issue a title or MSO,a 30 day tag if applicable, and that's it.
I absolutely have no problem with dealers making a profit, they have bills to pay like we all do. But to charge hundreds of dollars for BS like"Freight and set-up",etc. and call it anything but money for the dealer is dishonest. Doug

    08 Honda's

    by Aroguejim » Wed Aug 15, 2007 4:09 pm

The 08's are to be announced Labor Day weekend at the Honda Dealer show in Vegas. I have been waiting for the announcement as to the 450 being EFI or Carb'd. Then I can go buy my new one. None of the dealership owners will tell me anything! I have tried them all in this area!

I wouldn't worry about seeing any EFI in '08. A trusted source not far from the pro's in the industry has a feeling Suzuki will hit first, but is having a lot of trouble getting carb-like performance out of their EFI testing machines. He has heard they are dumping millions into the R&D for it, with little progress. So he's skeptical the Yellow giant might be gun shy about release in '08 just yet.

Another set of ears at a dealership not far from me has said they've heard nothing on EFI in any Honda bikes for '08. Yamaha has hit with their '08 line, and I didn't recall reading anything about EFI in any of theirs either... so could be another year out yet.

In any case, I'm not sure I'd want a first-year EFI bike anyway. Not so much for any problems you might have (although you could), but there comes a satisfaction being able to get inside a carb and jet it your dang self, right? ;) (I could be alone on this one. Just really like carb work). Buler? Buler?? Buler??? :P
