    CRF250R oil change?

    Just wondering i never got a manual with my bike when i bought it second hand and im not sure which is my engine oil and transmission oil? on the left hand side of the bike it has the dip stick and drains out from under the bike is this my engine oil? Then this would meen the trani oil is the one with no dipstick and on the right side and can only be checked by loosining of a screw on the side of it to see if oil comes out?

    You are correct. Here is another way to remember this. You pour transmission oil over the clutch. You can see the clutch cover on the right side of the engine, so that is where the transmission oil goes. Also, the transmission oil really doesn't have any where to go so there is no dip stick. Therefore, the dip stick side is for engine oil which does get depleted. Get a Billy Who Man Funnel to drain transmission oil without making a mess.

    alright thanks ya i wasent really sure but ya it really is a pain to drain the transmition oil thanks again.

    The drain hole for the tranny is back in behind the drain hole for the engine oil. Run a full quart or L in the tranny side and follow the manual for the engine side. If you search for oil Agent has a great post where he has a pick of the drain plugs. Change both oil frequently, and enjoy the ride.

    1. The transmission drain bolt on all CRF250R's is not behind the engine drain, it is a horizontal bolt on the left side of the engine below the shift lever.
    2. I would not recommend 1,000 cc or even 1 Qt. of transmission fluid. The manufacturer recommends less than 700cc.

    You are the only one who doesn't run a full quart in the tranny side. Search the posts. I trust the opinions of the people that have been riding for years. Joe, Agent, Doug and the like. They all run a full quart. It's your bike and you have to do what you feel comfortable with but I like to learn from others. Either way enjoy.

    Well, the only other people that I know that service the CRF250R transmission with no more than 700cc is....
    AMERICAN HONDA Amateur Support. But you probably have more credible sources, so, good luck with that.

    Think what they do with their bikes. Oil changes between motos and things like that. It could never get low.I ride over hill and over dale and don't check the oil after every ride. Have never heard anything bad about it so it's worth the insurance.

    Tried 1000ml and overflow ruined rear brakes.

    hey i just bought a 2004crf250r 8) and im wondering were i drain my oil i know were to put it in but the drain is a mysterie :?
    also how often shood i change my transmission oil?

    I think those guys who posted above you were confusing the 450X and the 250R, so don't panic.
    The 250R/250X have the transmission fluid goin in on the right side, that's your right as you're sitting on the bike and it holds about 700cc's. The transmission drain bolt is just below your shifter, thread it back in by hand only and do not over tighten that thing or you'll be sorry.
    The engine oil goes in the left, there's a dip stick, and the drain is underneath the engine .
    Get a Clymer Manual and soon, you'll be needing it. Doug
