    newbe needs help

    by Wantabe » Wed May 30, 2007 1:23 am

:D New 2006 CRF250R. Need to set myself up with the proper items to make maintenance easier and affordable. For example, the Scott performance stainless steel oil filter vs Hiflow paper vs. other. Which type of air filter (I would like 2 to have one always clean)-Do I need to buy a whole new set up or just a different air filter element (any suggestions?). I have 4 hrs on the bike, can I use synthetic oil (Rotella synthetic).
Also, I have experienced throttle delay in the turns ie, idle to wide open throttle. Any ideas?

get a jd jetting kit for your bike i think you will find some benefit with that in the turns and throttle bog and make sure you keep your bike in the right rpm range shift down if you need to. oil i use delo 400 15W-30 i think and change my oil filter every couple oil changes. check the manual fro oil recommendations...it will give you different weights for the temperature in which you are riding.good luck!

The dreaded bog blip.Get a jd jetting kit boyenson quick
shot adjust your throttle cable some dealerships dont check this.
Oil filters paper versus steel it is a question you ask how much of aclean freak you are clean it well no problems if you get laxed and just half rear clean it all of those metal break in shavings will get where you dont want them.I use kn filters change after 4 hard rides and use elf synthetic which gives me more rides on it like about 20 hours.I trail ride in sand, trees, rock, very little moto cross.More occra and black jack events also after every ride if stop to take a break wait 3 minutes for the oil to cool down and check the oil this a common killer on 250r. :D

take off the right grip and check the throttle tube. it might need adjustment or a new tube if you are being to rough with it.

    Adjust "fuel" screw

You can probably adjust that hesitation away with a very short screw driver. The FCR carb has a "fuel" screw (called "pilot" screw in some manuals) that will adjust the mixture for 0 to 1/8th throttle. At high ambient temperatures like you have in Arizona right now, the mixture will be leaner because the air is less dense. You probably need to close the fuel screw down to restore the optimum ratio of 15:1 air to fuel (by weight). Maybe by just a quarter turn or so. Before I bought a jet kit of any kind, I would buy an aftermarket fuel screw that you can grab with your fingers and turn without using a screw driver.
