That's how I was taught. It feels very natural, and good point -- on a man made, properly groomed jump. (with a landing slope). Good post. That captured the important stuff while keeping safety and ability in mind.

Only thing I would add is: jumping is fun. If you feel stressed, or not having fun learning how, pick something smaller, or if learning on a table-top, just look to bunny-hop onto the top of it. Have fun with that a while and get used to how it feels, taking note of bike & body position. Gradually add more speed, per you confidence.

Great input, thanks. I ride trail CRF450X. More and more i start doing tracks as i really enjoy the learning curve and some competition. For the last few months i did this with my 450X but it lands like a sack of potatoes and gears/cam are not setup for racing tracks. I weigh 90KG, (i think that's 180lbs). I rode seveal other bikes on the track (KTM300, 250exc, 200exc). I'm an average rider but noticed that progress is made pretty fast when training alot. I don't use all the power in the 450x and i am looking to buy a 250R for the track but i can't decide on maybe going a 125 smoker, or a CR250 as they seem to land like a feather and get's you through corners faster. I know this doesn't really fall under the subject of jumping but since that is what i like among other track technicals that would be important for my choice and it seems to me that you guys know what you are talking about. Any advise appreciated. Sorry for any Engish grammar errors.

    Thanks

    I can't help but suggest the 450R.
If you're thinking about a 250 2-stroker, I'd bet you'd really enjoy the 450R. To me, although a few lbs. heavier, it feels like there is much more "usable" power, giving us guys who are new to that much power almost a learning assist, if you will. Very linear delivery, and extremely maneauverable. If there's any way you could try someone's, I think you might enjoy it. ;)
