should there be oil in from the transmission in the crankcase. does all that connect

No. The crank seals are bad if that's the case.

I've also seen them leak from bad primary crankcase seals, running it like that is no bueno, depending on how bad it is you could toast your motor, just ask my cousin, he'll tell you from experience. I'd check the crank seals first like ~ said

i took the oil filler cap off while idleing and the rmps surged up and down. so that would mean crank seal right?
