    2003 tt-r125 troubles

    by hondafan » Wed Nov 05, 2008 6:01 pm

Hey guys whats going on? i bought this TT-R125 as a playbike and it has been running fine up until now. when i roll on the throttle it bogs way down. when the choke is pulled up it runs like a champ. i have tried bigger main jets and bigger pilot jets. and it still does it? i have also replaced a couple of parts within the carburetor that looked worn or damaged. it is starting to tick me off because i have tried alot and nothing helps. if anyone has anything i would appreciate it.

Thanks marks but those were the first things i checked, along with the fuel filter. i replaced the spark plug when i bought the bike (about 6 months ago). but do you think it may have gone bad in this short of time, and would cause the motor to bog at half throttle? its possible i guess. i will get a new plug tomorrow. thanks again!

Isn't the new buyer going to ride it first, or what ?
I'm sure you're going to tell them that "it really bogs unless the choke is all the way out", right ?
My wifes bike is a very good running 04 TTR 125 that's been as trouble free as a paper weight.
Changing jets when a bike ran great before is never a fix unless temps and elevation vastly changed.
Though you've cleaned the carb it is almost always a clogged jet(s) when you need the choke on to keep the bike running, the choke gives it a lot more fuel which it obviously is lacking. When it's not clogged jets with that sympton it's usually bad fuel.
I'd drain the float bowl, dump the gas and start over, if no luck then a carb cleaning with compressed air in every jet and orifice, including the choke cable entrance.Look at the excellent TTR owners manual which is really 3/4 of a shop manual to be sure the carb goes back together right, there's a plastic part in the float bowl that can be put in wrong.

oh yeah, i told him that it bogs before he was even ready to buy it. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/mcy/908909499.html

and Doug i did all that except the compressed air thing. i was just tired of working on it and the guy was desperate... plus i needed the extra cash.

i have to say i wont miss it, but it sure ran good when it did run.
