    my 06 CR250R Ran away!

    by krisrtch » Sun Jun 29, 2008 8:13 am

I was riding it around the house to burn the fuel out of the bowl when al of a sudden the engine started running away. TRied the kill switch to no avail. Only way to kill it was to drop it and let the clutch go. Any ideas what would cause it to run away?

Stuck throttle, bad ground on switch...But THE REAL QUESTION is:

"why are you riding so soon after a collar bone break"????

Well   I put new graphics on it and when I was puttin the plastics back on I noticed a few what I beleive to be cracks on the pipe and wanted to see if it smoked. So I fired it up and then turned the fuel off to run the bowl dry. the throttle wasn't sticking I'll have to check the ground wire. It didn't hurt to just puut around the yard until I had to drop it. I know I was being stupid. The toys are going up and not coming out until after surgery. I promise.

It's put put away :( :( :( This sucks not being able to go ride errrr. I actaully can't wait to get this thing plated and get back on them. If I would have been riding her this wouldn't of happened in the first place. The suspension on it is dialed in. The 450 not so much thats what I was doing when this happened.

Funny you should mention that problem on that bike... The exact same thing happened on a ride with my cousin who has an 01 250. He killed it just as you did, but to fix it he took a stick and wiggled the cable as it goes into the carb. That is what he says he does whenever that happens... Hope this helps. :?

My old 2 smokes always did that when the ran out of fuel if I was going slow at the time. My guess would be they just keep leaning out untill run away.

That is what the motor does when running to lean. The internal engine temp is so high that it does not need spark to ignite the fuel, Only compression. so using the kill switch does not work. Next time use the carb drain screw to drain the fuel.

Yeah I kinda figured it out when I forgot to turn the gas on @ the track last time I took it out it did the same thing until I turned it on. then ran fine.
