You do need the gasket. Do you still have your stock x can? The gasket may still be in it...

BTW, my end cap is very pink. When I originally ordered it from PMB, I asked it they could make me a silver one. They said yes, but it would be a month until the next run.

Maybe Ken can order a batch of silver ones. I'd buy one. I'm with Scott: I don't like the gold or any bling. I wish I could have found a silver Scotts too...

    Four-Fifty-X,

Hmmm, I do not remember seeing one on the stock can but I guess it does not matter because I sold it a while back when I purchased a FMF Q4.

Actually, if it fades really back, then I will look for a black cap. I think the black would look better than the silver but thats just my 2 cents. Thanks for the info.

Chris, What gasket are you talking about? When I did mine, I didn't put in any gasket. I just took off the old can and installed the new one. I don't have any exhaust leaking between the head pipe and the can. Ernie

There is a Silver LEAD type gasket that goes between the header and muffler where they meet. The muffler that I bought did not have it so I had to pick it up from the dealer. Now I get NO blow-by from that section.

what type of material is it made of? I'll have to see if it's still inside my old can. Was your leak right at the junction between the header and the can? Thanks, Ernie

It was a silver lead type material. Yes, it goes right where they both meet (header and muffler)....

It slips in the meffler end and then slides over the header. Once together, I used the stock clamp from the R Pipe and clamped it down.

Hopefully my R exhaust (in shipment) has this gasket already on the pipe...I'm sure it does since the R pipe and R header are both being shipped. We will see.

Here are a couple updated pictures of it completed. I am also in the process of polishing the can but it's not complete yet.

Thanks for the pic Chris. I'll have to take it apart and look at it.

I used Mothers on mine too! I didn't go nuts with it, just rubbed some on and buffed it off with a terry towel. I can see how it could get like a mirror if you took a polishing wheel to it though.

    Help!

Can someone tell me what to do when I finally opened up my exhaust and it looks like this!?!?

I have been struggling with this for almost 2 hrs now....and it doesn't look like the pictures....I had to take the entire baffled tube out when I pulled the end out and that was after I had to cut through the end cap just to get enough force on it. I'm not even sure I can get the tube back in with out rippping up everything. I would have just bolted the exhaust on as is if I would have known this was going to happen. It's going on a 2006 250X.
