    Fork Oil Change - puzzled

    by mrlassi » Thu Sep 22, 2011 12:33 pm

I have an '05 CRF250R that I use only for trail riding. It was used and a gift from my son. I recently serviced the forks to replace leaking seals and change the oil in both the dampeners and outer tubes. The springs have a hash mark at 12 and 3 o'clock and measured 19.5" (factory length) but my book says factory springs are not marked. Any idea who makes these? Second question; the old oil in the outer fork tubes measured out to approx 175 ML (each side had about the same amont). The book calls for 382 ML. That's a huge difference. The leak wasn't that bad. I changed the dampener oil too and installed new seals and wipers. Everything measured out properly and seems to be working fine. I'm just puzzled about the fact that the old oil volume was ~100 ML less than spec. Is this simply evidence of prior tuning?

welcome to CRF's Only! good job on the fork rebuild! was this your first time working with forks? it could have been the previous technician didn't fill it sufficiently but i'd guess that it leaked out.

    again, welcome!
