    06 CRF250R shock spring removal

    by JerkyChew » Mon Jun 20, 2011 4:27 pm

I must be missing something here - I'm trying to remove the spring from my CRF250R's shock. After loosening the preload adjusters all the way, the service manual simply says, "Remove the stopper ring, spring seat and spring." However, I can't get the stopper ring and spring seat apart, and even then I don't see how I'll be able to slide those parts past the bottom bracket.

The bike's never had the shock off before so I assume that stuff is just "stuck". But are the ring and seats screwed together, or do I just need to smack them around a bit to get them apart?

I uploaded a quick video from my phone to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brzGfXg86X4 to hopefully show the situation a bit better. Thanks in advance!

yeah it's just stuck. use a rubber mallet to separate the spring seat from the lower assembly (hit the ring towards the shock spring). once the spring seat is separated you'll see the stopper ring. remove that and you'll be able to remove the spring seat and then the spring.

Awesome, that did it, thanks! I didn't know there was a piston ring-type clip under there.
