Front / rear suspension dial-in help?

    by Jackal » Mon Feb 15, 2010 2:32 pm

2005 with stock suspension. I added lots of aluminum "armor" and I weigh about 205 w/o gear. I ride aggressive woods / trail and some MX here and there. I haven't had any time on this bike yet, but want a good start point so I can actually enjoy my first trip out.

I know the manual says on the forks to adjust the compression screws 11 out from full hard, and 7 out on the rebound screws. The 175 guy I bought it from had the compression at 8 and rebound at 5.

The rear shock has me a little stumped. It says to adjust the high speed compression 1.5-2 turns out and low speed compression to 6 clicks out. The previous guy had the H.S. out 1.75 and L.S. out 4 clicks.

What I don't get is how to adjust the rebound damping...is it the largest, outermost adjustable part where the compression settings are adjusted because mine doesn't seem to want to budge.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am use to changing my fork oil pretty frequently, but these forks look a lot more complicated than the old KYB's I'm use to.

On the rear shock the low speed compression is adjusted by the small screw at the top of the shock. The high speed compression is adjusted by the "large" nut that surrounds the "screw"

Rebound is adjusted at the bottom of the shock, near where the shock is bolted to the linkage components.
