Steering damper maintenance

Is there any suggestion how often should change oil in steering damper? There is not much oil for sure so does it get dirty less driving hours? Any experiences? What oil there should use?
My damper works smooth and there is no leak. Just curious.

what type of dampner? I have been running Scott's for 15+ years now and went almost 10 on my first one before talking to someone at scott's and finding out you should change the oil once a year or so, I bought a $6 bottle of their oil and did it in about 5 minutes, and it did make it perform better, now I do mine about twice a year, one $6 bottle of oil will do it 4-5 times.

Is there anything special to get air of it when changing oil?

I opened damper and oil was quite bad looking. I used honda 5W oil. Time will show how does it work. There is valve like in showa fork and shim stacks. I revalved mine little stiffer.
There is nothing amazing to do this job and it feeled good and there left no air in it. Nothing tricky.
So I quess it´s good to change oil twice in a year.
