Inner Chamber Leaks under Pressure - 250X

    by SJW » Thu Apr 23, 2009 4:55 am

    Hi

When I compress the fork damper piston rod 70% of the way the piston rebounds correctly.

If however if I compress the piston rod 100%, some of the oil is expelled which can be poured out of the overflow holes on the fork damper spring chamber.

Thereafter it will not rebound all the way - about two inches from the top

?? - Honda said I should not compress the fork damper piston rod 100% when testing the bleeding

?? - Not sure if I understand the manual, but it states that one should compress the rod 100% which will result in oil been released and 178cc left. Does this mean that the damper will not rebound 100% (two inches from top)?

Can anyone please advise where I am going wrong

    Much appreciated

    Stephen

If the inner chamber will not bleed, leaks, or continues to pour out more than the 17mL, then the floating piston seal is bad. Also known as the Inner Chamber Seal.

This would be a good time to take it to someone who has done one. They are out of the realm for average garage tools and abilities.

124's correct, it's more than likely the inner chamber seal. Not a terribly uncommon problem on Showa forks.

Several companies sell them, here is one from MX-Tech...

I'm sure you can replace them yourself if you're willing to be very careful
