06 CRF450r Fork Tear Down and Set Up Qs

Is it normal for the "spring seat". To have a very hard time passing the four dimples, just above the "oil lock set"? I removed the clip and oil lock set, so that's not holding it up. I just dont want to force the spring seat passed the dimples, if I am missing some thing...

Also the whole point of me doing this was to lessen the preload on the springs. I heard you can remove 3mm off the spring seat Spacer. To achieve a more initial pushness. I find the fork is really harsh on, slapping the front down or hitting the face of wallows. Also when getting way forward on the bike and hooking rutted turns. The front tends to kick out, more then I think it should.

I still need to do some testing with oil levels, and likley need a softer spring. Being 150 w/o gear beginner MX rider. With a few years of trail riding and Downhill biking back round. I am picking it up quickly and like to attack, I am just way off pace. Also the bike will see some woods time, but mainly track riding. So I wouldn't mind if it was abit on the plush side, perhaps just having to change the oil level for one vs the other.

I am trying to do all the free steps before getting in to spending more cash on springs or a revalve. So please bear with me on this one.

    Any other ideas?

They can be hard to get off.

I would not even touch the spring spacers there. At 150# you need lighter springs. The stock springs are setup for someone around 190-195 pounds. I run the 250F springs in my 450f and I weight 180. So that tells you that you need softer springs

That is the only thing that will help you right now. no playing with spring preload (which will probably make things worst since they may sit to low in the travel) or oil height.
