    super hard front forks??

    by rideracelivemx7 » Tue Oct 07, 2008 5:32 am

im 165lbs. I've had plenty of bikes all stock suspension. I got my 450r and it had factory connection suspension. and I wads pumped to try it out. the rear is perfect. but I replaced the seals in the frnt becuase they were junk. I called up FC and they said for oil anywere from 370-400cc. well I said I like my suspension soft so he recomended 380. so I put that much. now I have the dampners allll the way out. top and bottom. and there rocks. coming off a wheelie on pavement is real stiff. did he suggest way to much oil or what? im guna pull them back and rebuild this week end. what do you guys suggest? AS!?

Make sure you put the front wheel on correctly and the forks are not binding. There is a procedure on the manual.

It all depends on who/how they set it up. A SX setup for a 165lb rider will be extremely stiffer then a offroad setup for the same rider.

I usually run a lower oil level for offroad...around 350-365cc.

I am in the same boat. I am a beginner MX rider, 150lbs with out gear on a '06 CRF450r. Second bike, first being a KTM EXC250f. Any how picked the bike up second hand. I has stock springs and the back isn't feeling too bad. Bit stiff and bucks abit some times. But the front is horrible, really stiff to get the action moving. Only using 2/3 of the travel. So I am going to redo the oil level at min, then add as needed. Hoping I don't need a new spring...

Any one know about spring perload, with the KTM there were a bunch of plastic washers that you could remove to lessen the preload...

You need softer springs to start with. I am 180 and use the 250F springs in my 450.

Also the oil level should not be above 365. Probably closer to 350 for your weight. Just depends on how it is valved.
