Setting the rebound ?

Well here's a long-thought question: what are you looking for when setting rebound clickers?
It's pretty easy to detect the results of adjusting the compression clickers. (Can usually feel the change within the first couple turns/bumps on the track.).
But I'm pretty lost when it comes to choosing a rebound setting -- In general, what should I be looking for in getting the rebound set? I ride mostly track, with medium jumps and some breaking bumps & a pretty small whoops section. Nothing supercross anytime soon.
Should I start by just playing with the rebound clickers and see if handling gets worse or better, or is there somewhat of a guideline to follow when tweaking those?
