Yes, it will dry out the o-rings and make them crack. I never spray WD-40 directly on an O-ring chain to clean it. I spray it on a rag and run the chain through the rag until its clean. Then I spray it with chain lube.

I use Motorex Chain Cleaner on my o-ring chain and its the best!, and no it wont dry out or crack the o-rings.

It was a reference to a TV commercial in the states about Fosters Beer. Admittedly kinda vague and probably not one you may be familiar with outside this neck of the woods. Sorry

What wont dry out and crack the o-rings, Motorex chain cleaner or WD-40? WD-40 is a solvent. It disperses moisture and will dry out o-rings. I never heard of Mororex before.

    chain lube in sand

    by bigfundy » Sun Jan 27, 2008 9:18 pm

We ride sand dunes. What is the best chain lube for sand. Oils and wax seem to hold sand and create wear, some guys dont lube at all.

If you've never tried Boeshield T-9, you ought to give it a try. Far superior to WD-40 for many applications.

I first started using it many years ago when open ocean racing was my thing. Now I use it exclusively on all my toys.

Check out the test against 14 other products, including WD. ;)

I buy the big tin of WD-40 and put it into a plastic spray bottle, it's a lot cheaper than constantly buying the arousal cans. ;) I spray down my motor and chain after everywash. There is always one guy who freaks when my bike is warming up.

Next time it's putting on a show, take a pic. It would be fun to see.

Inox doesn't affect plastic and rubber that is why it is used where I work.
Apparently one of the few that can be used in food production lines.

As for sand riding o-ring chain bathed in several coats of silicon spray. Let dry then ride.
Silicon sprayed on the underside of clean guards also stops mud sticking and great on tent zips.
