knowledgable people say
- fill the gastank up
- close the petcock
- empty the floatbowl
- put your battery on a trickle charger
- change engine (and tranny-) oil
- squirt a little engine oil in your combustion chamber
and rotate the crank once or twice to spread the oil
- put a bit more air in your tires
- put the bike on a stand to avoid tire imbalances
- spray every moving part with WD40
- lube your chain
- cover your bike with a breathable cover (bedsheet)
the list can go on and on
but
all I did to my XR250 was hose it down to get off most of the mud it was covered in and close the petcock
it sat in a barn for 3 years, a friend got it out, opened the petcock, she fired up on the 4th kick and ran the whole track weekend (2 people, ridesharing a total of 8-9 hours) without ever skipping a beat
