Jumping

It seems like when I jump and land flat, I feel like I could have went 15ft higher and 15ft farther. BUT...when I see a gap with a landing ramp, I freak and avoid it, even though it may be smaller than some of the jumps I can already do. Can someone give some good ways to get over this fear besides, "Just jump it!"
Thanks!

red..find a table top jump...this will help with the fear and the technique. if you come up short it's like flat landing.

All you have to do is close your eyes 5 feet before you start going up the ramp and keep them closed until you hit the ground... Done!

Ok, just kidding... DON'T do that....

It is completely normal... a 65' tabletop seems harmless because of the flat area in the middle.. If you come up short, no big deal. Your brain knows that, so It doesnt' process the danger factor..
A 65' triple, whole different story, you may clear the 65' tabletop, and unless you have icewater running through your veins, or you are Kevin Windham, your brain WILL tell you that you are CRAZY! and naturally, you will be hesitant to go the same distance simply because of the gap...

It is all a mental thing..... you have to train your brain.
And really good suspension helps too.... :D

ok well i tried jumping a gap. i didnt make it.
i landed on the landing ramp and bounced off and hit the next jump while halfway off the bike and then flew 20ft into the woods and landed ontop of my bike.
fractured a rib and burned my body on the header.

not fun..

I'm surprised no body said stay loose. If you tense up, you will crash. If you tell yourself your not going to make it, this is going to hurt, etc, you will crash. If you want to do something, you have to say the hell with it and just do it. No the consequences of what happens if you fail, but don't let fear run you. Remember that you can jump it, and it is no different than a table top (minus the table top part  ).

Don't let the broken bone bother you too much, just try it again!

If you bounced on the landing , you may need to get some suspension mods.Or an MX bike. I dont think 230's absorb hard landings very well.

the dont absorb to much.. but itll do the job.. i just came up way to short.. i realise what i did wrong. i had the speed.. but when i was approching i thought i was going to fast so i let off the gas and never got back on the gas on the take off ramp.

My son follows someone else over the jumps to get his timing down.
