yes...this is normal until you get use to them. believe it or not you will get use to them and they will feel normal shifting again.

After riding with boots for awhile, try riding with shoes and they'll feel strange, almost naked. They will break in and you won't want to ride without them.

It's OK to readjust your shift lever too y'know. Move it up a couple splines until its comfortable again.

    Shifting with new boots

    by sc409 » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:04 pm

Make sure you are up on the tank, and your boots are slighty down on the shifter, it will help in the adjustment until you feel more comfortable. I had the same problem on new boots. Adjust the shifter until you find a spot that is right for you.

I had the same issue, I could not get comfy in boots for a long time.... until my buddy said "Adjust your shifter lever" fixed it right up... and was comfortable in 1 or 2 sessions...

If all of the above do not work, and you have a foot probably around a size 10 or more you might want a hammerhead shifter with an offset, it will be more confortable to shift. just my 2 pennies

Make sure your riding with the ball of your foot on the peg.. than slide your foot forward when it is time to shift. Don't try to pivot on the arch of your foot.

I have issues with the brake lever in boots since I ride so close to the tank. I essentially have to take my foot off the peg to brake which is weird. I started riding w/ short alpinestars boots late last season (I'm in canada) and I still haven't gotten use to it yet..

    cheers..

A less expensive option to the hamerhead lever is the sunline shift lever. it is about 10mm longer.
