So. Oregon Fall Ride 10/15 (date change)

by HKE PUK » Fri Sep 22, 2006 4:47 pm

    Hello All!

XGiant and I are planning a Southern Oregon Fall ride on Sunday Oct. 15 near Crater Lake, on the Prospect OHV Trail System, meeting at the Claude Lewis Trailhead/Staging Area (about 65 miles north of Medford). All abilitiy levels. If there's enough interest, we may see if we can get some "expert" guides if we have more than one group of riders (even if they don't ride red!)

For those who may be interested in making this a family trip, we are planning on going to Crater Lake and visiting spots along the Rogue River Gorge on Sat. Oct 14. There are plenty of camping areas close for those interested.

    Who's in? :) Send me a PM.

    Here's some links and directions:

    Have a great weekend, gents!

PS - We will also be planning So. Oregon Adventure for late next summer based on the response regarding the pix posted.

    Here's a little looksy!

O.K., so here is your chance to ride some incredible trails! We rode #3 and #37 and had a blast last week. We will probably look at some of the tighter trails this time out... depending on who shows up (Hey NorCal boys!)...Ahh, the loam...!!!:D :D

The trails themselves are not too difficult. There are trails for all skills levels as well. We can adjust the ride accordingly. We just went fast (This is to be take relatively!!!) over the easier stuff last time. There were a couple of hills, but nothing too drastic. If you take your time, most of the trails can be accessed by a 150.

I'd consider coming out if you were riding for the entire week. Kinda hard to justify the trip for one day of riding for me.

Whoa! Trying to figure out the timing, I'm at a glider event about 6 hours from the CA/OR border on the 14th.

How about a best guess estimate of time from the border via Hwy. 5?

LOAM. What a beautiful, soft sounding word!

Same here ... maybe 3-4 days even. Full days drive from SoCal, but I am definitely interested in riding the area with those of you who know the trails.

Medford is just inside the Oregon border, not even an hour in. We are planning a major ride for next summer if enough guys want to make the trek. We are using this ride to scope out family activities, places to stay, things to do in the evening, etc., as well as look over some trail options. We are also working on rounding up some of the local riders to serve as trail guides to lead groups on trails based on ability level. That way, the trails will not be crowded, and nobody will get lost. I was impressed with the variety of terrain offered by this location. There are hills, rocks, tight singletrack, even open fire roads. There are trails for every ability level. If you can make this trip, great, if not, let's work on a plan for next summer. This location is closed for the winter, and does not re-open until July.
