Check valve clearance - oil change required?

Hi all - i just started to check valve clearance and when i pulled the side cover (10 mm Allen) it started dumping oil. I slapped it back on before it dumped much.

Does a valve lash check require an oil change/fill?

I’m pretty sure it’s just going to dump a little- but it’s band new oil and is rather wait a few hours to check the valves than change zero hour oil.

If you are talking about the large round plug on the clutch side , it is just about at the same height as the fill level plug , so trace amounts of oil can come out , but unless you are running a full quart , it won't be much if you used the specified amount , and at most it will be under 1cc if that , as once the oil gets to the level of the bottom of the opening , it will stop ....... If you are just looking for a quick reference , then put the bike on the kickstand instead of on a stand , so it is tilted to the left , then check your mark , then reinstall the plug once the mark is aligned

But , No , a valve check/timing mark inspection does not require oil to be drained ....
