    Earth Wire

    by 450xer » Tue Jun 13, 2017 10:50 pm

Hi guys hoping somebody here can help. I've had the bike apart for so long i cant remember where the negative wire from the battery grounds too. Is it frame or engine? 2007 450x aus model if that makes a difference.

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

Sorry , just noticed this post

Battery grounds to the engine just next to the clutch actuator

Thanks, been lurking here for a while but haven't needed to ask anything before now.

Does it bolt to the clutch cable bracket or the case somewhere?

Looks like I found a picture of it. Outer bolt of clutch cable bracket appears to be the one.

Another wiring question while im here.
I want to run an led headlight, can i hook up a small reg/rec from a pitbike to the headlight wiring and have it run DC that way? Or am i missing something?
I know i can have the stator rewound but dont really want to spend that much just yet

What your concerned with is that the new setup works within the output of the stator , i am not sure what the output is for a Australian models , i am guessing its different from the U.S. models

The maths works out, the standard globe is 35/35w and the led globe pulls considerably less than that. Just need to rectify from the ac that goes to the standard globe and regulate it to around 12v. Was just thinking of a pitbike r/r because they're dirt cheap

The U.S. bikes are 12v at the bulb , the Aus bikes are not ??? , confused , if the LED is 12v and the Watts are within spec then it should just be straight hookup as far as i know

Why not take the power feed off the battery via a fuse of course. Isn't this how the X is already wired or is it a dedicated lighting circuit with seperate lighting coil in the stator?

Ray , the U.S. models are separate in the stator , for Ignition , Charging , and Lighting

From what I've read the stator won't have enough power to charge the battery if running lights off it too. I don't really want to kill a new lithium battery. They have a separate lighting circuit for the headlight.

12V AC? from looking at the wiring diagram it would be unregulated ac at the globe. Led's need dc and close to 12v with not much variance. US and Aus wiring should be the same.

This is the diagram i've been using for everything else and so far its right.

The U.S. models are 12v DC at the bulb , thats why i said if the watts and voltage is the same then it should just be a plug in and go , anything that would be AC voltage would be converted in the Regulator , but as far as my Factory Honda Service Manual says , all output voltage from the Stator is 12v DC

Crap I must have missed that, I thought the lighting circuit was ac. Thanks, I'll test it with a multimeter in a few days and confirm

Definitely ac at the headlight between 10 and 11v at idle. Anyone know if my original idea will work?
