Chain has been eating away at my mudflap. Not only does it make a terrible noise but its shredding my mudflap. Is this normal? And is it that my chain could be worn out or on the loose side?

Yes, normal when the chain has a little wear, is loose, and develops sideways play.

I unscrew the flap, trim off the chewed area with an exacto knife, and make it look prettier for a while.

I do the same thing after my chain has eaten some of the mud flap (check your chain tension often to prevent this). However when I trim my chain guard it heat it up so that a razor can cut through it like butter. Faster and cleaner job.

I take it off and use the bent sander. Really lets you do a nice job of sanding off the messed up areas and form it to look perfect. For what its worth most all the dirt bikes have the same issue with the mud flap getting rashed.
