    Any hope of EFI CRF450X?

    by wordup48 » Fri Jun 10, 2016 9:00 am

I would buy this bike if Honda would release it. I live in CO and regularly ride in places where I can have 5,000 ft elevation swings in either direction. EFI would make things much easier for these types of rides.

As the 450R has had EFI since 2009, do we know if Honda plans to import that over to the 450X?

Thanks in advance guys - I had a 2006 450X for a number of years and am getting the itch to get another one if Honda outfits it with EFI. I have not been able to find any insider information anywhere, but I may just not know where to look.

Honestly , the only thing EFI will add to the 450X is more weight , i have a 06 and i go from 2000-8000 with at the most a minor Fuel Screw adjustment , i don't see any advantage it will provide the X unless they figure a way for it to lose about 50 lbs first , and EFI will add about 10-15 lbs , tipping it to the 300 lbs mark with a 3.2 tank , i used to ride a 84 XL600R off-road , and honestly , the last thing you want to do is try to pick up a 300 lbs bike on a hillside or when your lying under it

Honda has (for the last 2 years) a EFI 450R that has a button (in Japan for the GP's) , from what i have seen/read , there are no plans to incorporate that design to the X , at least not in the next 2 years

Unfortunately if you want a EFI Button Bike , your only options (at least for the next year or so) are the KTM 450XC-W, Yamaha 450FX or WR450 , or Husky 450 , Honda is pushing a updated 450R (no button) , so i doubt they will do a EFI X for at least 1-2 years ...but again , the added weight is a deterrent to me

Sorry , but its not looking good , at least not in anything i have heard/seen till 2018 maybe longer , as the X has not had a major change since its inception (only slight plastic/tank changes and the addition of the low speed dampener , that pretty much summarizes the changes to the bike since 2005 till present , so not reassuring)

    On a side note , i did a Honda Poll , that asked what "we"/"consumers" would like , i asked for a CR250WR/2 Stroke with E-Start , Wide Ratio 6 Speed , EFI and a Headlight/Taillight 18" rear Wheel under 235 lbs and under $7,000 ....doubt i will see it either ...

I have had a similar wish list for years.
EFI, bigger gas tank, 6 speed. Too greedy of me?

I would like EFI because the higher pressure in the system very slightly self cleans deposits as you ride. Maybe a hair better than a plugged pilot jet in a carbed bike would clean itself out.

Thanks for your guys' 2 cents. I know we are just speculating, but I think EFI overall would be great. Things like a bigger tank are nice, but I can easily fix that in the aftermarket with a few Benjamins (EFI, not so much...).

So when was the last time they changed *anything* on the 450X? 2012? Seems its been pretty stagnant...

Jim - that 2-stroke bike you mention would be a cool machine, but somehow I think its not on Honda's development timeline

Basically the only real changes since 08 is graphics and a slight plastic and tank adjustment , other than that , its pretty much the same bike from 05 to present , even Yamaha went all crazy and made a YZ250WR (2 stroke) and they gave the WR450 the newer style reverse engine and EFI , i think Honda and Suzuki and even Kawasaki , have people in suits telling everyone else in the company what people want , instead of actually asking riders what they want like Yamaha and KTM do , Kawasaki got rid of their KLX450 and Suzuki only had the RMX450 for 2 years , then recalled them all (or at least tried to) because they would not pass California Emissions (which makes me mad that everyone has to adhere to the Emission Nazi's even if you don't live in their state

I like my 450X , but honestly , the biggest downside to me is the weight , but usually only when i fall over and have to pick it back up , other than that , i like it the way it is , if they were to do anything to it , i would rather they help it drop 40 lbs , if given the choice of that or EFI , the EFI is about last on my priority list for the X , Jenny Craig needs to be part of Honda R&D first and foremost in my opinion .... ;)

And yea , i would sell my X and buy that 2 stroke if they ever came out with it , otherwise , i can live with the downfalls of the X

Yes , but that would still mean 1-2 years before the U.S. market sees it at best , usually everyone in Europe see's things that either we do not , (Dual Sport models for example) or that take a few more years before we see it , or something that sort of resembles it , but not always the same , as Japan has had the E-Start 450R for over a year , i doubt we will see it for at least another year (2018) , even though Yamaha has followed KTM in providing a 2 stroke off road specific bike , and a E-Start EFI MX/Off-Road bike

The 450X has remained almost unchanged since 2005 , just a few minor adjustments , and that is all they have done , the 2012 models were the last actual ones produced , the rest listed as 2013,14,15,16 are all leftover 2012 models , so it goes to show Honda's interest in "updating" this model , Honda and Suzuki and Kawasaki are falling behind in the Off-Road market , Yamaha and KTM seem to listen to the customers and respond with what they ask for ....Honda , not so much

2017 is your year with the new CRF 450RX. EFI, E-start all all the R goodies all packed into 263 lbs wet. I do believe it's almost time to retire the 2006 X and upgrade for me. Then again, she's been a charm since she was new. They may have to compliment each other like a polygamous relationship!
