    First GoPro video

    by crazybrother » Wed Feb 10, 2016 4:46 pm

Well, here is my first video with my new GoPro Session 4. Have no idea how to edit, so this is raw video... Any suggestions would be great.

    Nice Video !

How long of battery life are you getting at 1080/60 ?? , as the Session does not have the ability to swap out batteries like a full size Gopro , i was not sure how it would do for Off-Road riding , since the video's would be much longer than say a MX track video , i know with my Hero 3+ Silver , i go thru a battery for every 32gb Micro SD card , so i usually carry 3 batteries and 3 Micro SD cards on a off-road ride so i can get a few hours of footage

As far as video editing , Gopro Studio is about it unless you want to buy a video editing program , although i think you can use Windows Movie Maker on MP4's (at least the newer versions of WMM) , i used it for my old non HD Gopro (the original Hero)editing , but when i got the Silver 3+ WMM did not work with the format , so i have been forced to use the Gopro Studio , which works fine , its just not as user friendly as WMM

As far as your video itself , the only thing i would do to enhance the video is for a narrative to be added , weather verbally or by means of text on the screen to indicate for those not familiar with the area your riding , with on screen info like where your riding , whom your riding with , elevation , things you observe along the ride , etc , like when you got to the summit , since i live in Idaho , i have no idea where you were , so things like that , i start my videos with a opening written dialog of where i am riding , what i am riding (what bike) whom i am riding with , and the date of the ride , etc , so it gives the viewer a more in depth sense of what is going on during the ride

The length of your video is about right , i have a bad habit of uploading a 15+ minute video of a ride , usually without breaks or scene edits , just start to finish , for others other than myself , sometimes it gets a bit long to watch , so 5 or so minute clips is a good size to keep them ( which usually requires editing to get the footage to that length , because the ride would obviously be much longer) , also , i personally prefer the sound of the bike over any music , unless the music is at a lower volume in the background , while still allowing the sound of the bike's to come thru

I have my Gopro mounted to the mouth guard of my helmet , so you get a more "eye view" of the ride (it does not interfere with my vision/view) , it also allows my voice to be heard clearly should i decide to say something , but you can still plainly hear the bike

Anyway , hope that is what you were looking for as far as input goes ...... expecting more , as i always enjoy riding footage

This is the type of video's i did on my old NON HD Gopro

Obviously the quality is crappy because its Non HD, and i have yet to upload any video's since i got the Hero 3+ last year so this is the most recent i have uploaded ( i have lots of HD video , just none of it uploaded yet), but it gives you a idea of the editing and on screen text i was talking about , even though its actually not really edited much at all , this was edited with Windows Movie Maker

This was basically the ride to the top in full , the editing took maybe half a hour or so to do from start to finished video , as i had to sort thru footage and keep the duration as minimal as i could (and it's still over 15 minutes long), but it will hopefully give you some idea's as to what to do to enhance the video itself
