    Decomp assembly question

    by stolenpictures » Fri Dec 04, 2015 7:24 pm

G'day guys, I've just put in a new top end and valves for the first time on my 2010 X. Just have a question regarding the decomp mechanism. My manual states, "fit the decompressor weight hole onto the setting pin on the decompressor shaft. Push down on the right side of the weight and check that the decompressor plunger extends to push the rocker arm roller. When released the weight should return to its original position and the plunger should retract into the camshaft."

When I do that, I get the opposite. The plunger is extended at rest, until I push on the weight which retracts it into the camshaft. See my video...

What am I doing wrong? Or is the wording in the manual backwards?

I believe the manual is incorrect. The decomp plunger should be sticking out of the camshaft when at rest and when you push on the lever, it should retract. You want the decomp to be enabled at low RPM in order to get the motor started, then once the RPMs are up, it is disabled due to centrifugal force.
