    HM CRF450 how to ac --> dc

    by GTI16VSC » Tue Jul 07, 2015 1:48 am

    Dear all,

    I'm from the Netherlands and i recently traded my GSX-R K9 racebike for a HM (Honda) CRF450 2003. HM was the company that converted the CRF's for road use here in Europe.

    The electronics are AC, i want to covert it to DC because i would like te run a battery so i have the advantage of blinkers, high beam, alarm system and stuff like that.

    Do any of you guys know if its simple to convert to DC? Just by putting a rectifier on it?

    I would like to hear what you guys think.

    I am not sure what would be the solution , other than maybe going on EBay and getting a COMPLETE used wiring harness for a U.S./Canada Model 450X , and swapping it out , you would also need a U.S./Canada Subframe to hold the battery , as well as the Stator/Flywheel and all electrical components , maybe including the Starter and related switches , that is about the only way i would think that you would not damage something , , but EVERYTHING in the electrical system would need to be replaced as far as i know , maybe someone else has done this and could answer better , but that is what i would do

    I don't think you can just add a recifier. You will need an additional coil in the stator.

    TrailTech has kits;

    I'm sure Ricky's will as well. Not sure where you are going to put your battery, but this will do the job. Because you aren't going to run a starter maybe one of the smaller Lithium bike batteries would work. Or maybe a small gel cell.

    *EDIT*

    Just saw the kits have a battery as well. Looks like the best solution to me.

    I allready have the Trailtech stator kit, only the AC version.
    As far as i see, the only difference between the ac and dc version from trail tech is the regulator. All the other parts in this kit are the same (same part number).

    So if this is correct, i would only need to install the dc regulator from trail tech.

    Just had contact with trail tech.

    Seems that the AC / DC systems are the same except for the regulator. So you only need a regulator if you want to make your bike DC :D
