    R exhaust on X?

    by Bailout » Tue Jan 06, 2015 5:51 am

Just wondering whether an R exhaust kit off a 450 would fit the 450x,would the model years need to be the same, any mods needed?

They are different. The R had the exhaust exit out the left front side of the engine (before this year anyway), and the X out the right side front.

I depends on the year. I have an 05 X and have a R header and can on it.

05 was the only compatible year I believe.

05 is direct bolt on , the 06 can be made to work if you move the mid mount on the muffler by about 1/4" (set it in place and mark the location on the mount where the new center is) its basically about half the nut off , what i did was take a grinder and cut out the threaded part of the 06 mid mount and take a nut and lightly tack it on on side so it can be slightly moved around , then set the muffler in place and set the bolt to align the nut , then remove the bolt (you just thread it in enough to set the nut in place), then remove the muffler and weld the nut in place all the way around , using a old bolt to protect the threads , put the muffler on and it fits fine , ............. no other years will interchange

Yeh iv got an 08 450x and a friend of mine has an 06 450r exhaust that he's offered me. So with a little modification the header can be added, I'm wondering whether this is a worthwhile mod considering he's offered it to me for free is there much difference?

Difference in performance , YES ! , as long as its accompanied with larger jetting and opening up the top of the airbox , the engine needs to breath , with the more open exhaust , it needs more fuel and air to run to its potential (a R cam or HotCams is a nice addition as well to help it get to its potential) , i run the 06 muffler with a PMB Endcap on my 06X , i also have the airbox cut and the Pink Wire Mod and a HotCams Stage 1 along with larger jetting

    Side Note:
Don't forget to ride it Off-Road , you will still need a Spark Arrestor , so you will either need a Pro Moto Billet Endcap , or some other "add-on" spark arrestor as the 450R muffler does not have any so it is illegal in most states for off-road use in its stock form

Been running one of these for years. Not sure if the owner will sell the header by itself anymore. It's made for the R and is tough as nails...thick, tapered stainless...with an R cam it produces very noticeable differences over stock. Bolted straight on.

Is the crf450r header the same in 2005 & 2006

I have a 2005 can. But I don't have a header yet. I have an opportunity to get an 06 header but not sure it will fit. Is the 05 & 06 header identical???
