    Carb question

    by gobigohome » Thu Oct 09, 2014 2:00 pm

So I had my bike in storage for a couple years, so needless to say I was a little rusty on the tear down and rebuild of the carb. I had to clean all the jets and change some jetting due to elevation. I got it all back together but when I turned the gas on it started pour out the outlet tube on the bottom of the carb. I made sure the gas drain screw on the bottom of the carb was closed but is still coming out.

Any thoughts on what could be going on? Could the float be stuck open? I did not think it would still come out the drain on the bowl.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

yes your float is stuck, if you have a gauge I believe it needs set at 8mm? check the manual don't take my word for It.

When you mean 8mm is it a setting or jet. For my ignorance can you put it in lamen terms for me exactly what is meant or the procedure to do it. I have also tried to search for this but was hard to find the straight answer.

A stuck float has nothing to do with the float itself.

The float needle gets caught up in it's cavity due to corrosion, and will get stuck.

You need to pull the float needle, polish it, and polish the cavity it sits in, so it will slide without issue.

You should also inspect the tip of the needle (rubber) for any marks....replace it if you see any rings in the rubber.
