    Gearbox compatibility 450 r/x are they the same

    Good afternoon

    I'm just trying to find out if the gearbox ratios on a crf 450 r the same as the 450 X can I use the same clusters

    Are the ratios the same?

    No the physical size of the parts are different and will not fit as the X case is wider than the R

    Either that or buy a X and change out head, cam etc.
    Also have button start unless you what to get rid of that too.

    the information you've been provided is correct. honda makes trans changes among models/model years making them incompatible. it would have been a great design choice to make the R and X transmissions interchangeable. the '02-08 450R trans is not even compatible with the '09+ 450R trans. as mentioned we do have a wide ratio trans for the '02-08 450R. it's rock solid and shifts better than the stock trans.
