CRF 450 X exciter coil peak voltage

    by fireball » Mon Mar 03, 2014 4:36 pm

    Hi
I want to check my exciter coil peak voltage, but it isnt in the service manual. Who knows, what is the minimum peak voltage on the exciter coil ? I measured coil resistance, it was ok, but stator can be bad, if the ohm is ok. I have very weak spark, I tried with an other cdi , same result.
the R service manual writes minimum 50 volts, but it has a different type stator.
    thanks
    here is my bike ;)

You will need to make yourself a peak voltage adapter if you wish to measure it with a multimeter.
A few dollares in parts, build a ful wave rectifying version, just goggle circuit diagrams for.

Pulse generator peak voltage 0.7v min (disconnected and while the engine is being cranked)

    Exciters normally minimum 100 volts.

    C30F Power Up needle
    Mains 132
    Idle 45
    2 turns out
    Baffle out, Screens In

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

    Hi
I measured the ignition pulse generator peak voltate ,too it was about 1 volt, that's ok, the exciter coil peak voltage was about 20 volts . I tought that is low. I did the measurements with an oscilloscope.
when I push the start button, I have weak spark, or no spark. I tried it an other CDI too, but the spark was very weak, the bike doesnt run.
Now one of my friend rewinding the exciter coil, I hope that it will solve the problem :)
