Raising bar height w/Scotts & ProBends

    by Wardlaw1 » Sun Feb 16, 2014 11:51 am

Hello from cold and snowy Michigan fellas!
I was a good boy and did my searches first but really didn't see anything relating to my situation. Looking for the best way to raise my stock bar height so I'm not slouched over while standing up. I have Scotts stabilizer and Cycra Pro Bends with triple clamp side mounts. Budget is TIGHT this season so I'm looking for an "economical" way to do so. I would also like to shed a little weight while doing so.

    Thanks for any input/ideas!

So your Stabilizer is under the bars now correct ?? , and that is not enough rise ?? , i dont run a Stabilizer , but i have 30mm risers on my R , and i have 10mm risers on my X with tall bars , and i am 5'10" and love the feel , but i think any higher would be too much , i have a friend that is 6'6" and runs the sub mounted Stabilizer and tall bars and does not have issues , even though he looks like he's riding a 80cc bike when he is on his KTM450SXF

What exactly are you looking for , more of a stand up riding position or to get your weight back farther on the bike ?

I have a bad back ,neck and shoulders (C5,C6,C7 fused and plated , and back broken 3 times , bursitis on both shoulders and Spondylar Arthritis from head to toe and that is why i did it , to get the weight off my shoulders , and the 10mm risers and tall bars really helped (it almost equals what the 30mm risers do) , but i did notice that when climbing steep hills i have less steering because the weight is now farther back but its something i can live with to get the pain relief from being more upright

On my R the 30mm risers give 2 1/2" rise , which is a lot (thats to the bottom of the bar), you can take your hand and put it sideways under the bar (fingers going vertical)

The risers are about $30-$40 so thats fairly cheap , i got mine from EBay

Stabilizer is mounted above the bars so they (the bars) are still at stock height. I ride 90% standing (Love my Fastway F6 pegs!) and it ends up being hell on the back by the end of the day so a more comfortable riding position is what I'm going for.I like the bend of the bars just would like to get them higher. I am also 5'10". Not sure the best (and least expensive way) to do it especially with the Probends w/side mounts. And the other thought was cable length limitations.

You might want to look into a Sub Mount then , that will give you the bars up where you want them , it will basically be the mount for the stabilizer, the bar clamp, and a longer pin , that should not be that expensive

This one should work except maybe the clamp for the neck , but the riser/mount part and pin should fit (if yours is a Scotts)

As far as the brake line goes it will work fine with the rise , that is actually what i did on my R was put a Galfer 450X Braided line on it because the X line is 6" longer than the R brake line, the throttle cables you just have to make sure you have them free where they go into the trees so when you turn the bar all the way to the right the throttle does not bind and stick , i have no issues with mine , but you will have to adjust things a little to make sure nothing binds

That's a great call! I wasn't looking at it from that standpoint but that makes sense. I'm thinking I will have to move to a different mount for the hand guards as well but depending on how high the sub mount raises the bars they may work. Thanks for the links also. I will see what CRF's Only has as well.

    Thanks a TON!

What hand guards are you running ?? , they should attach to the bars , not the top clamp so there should not be a issue with risers of any kind .... are they Fastway ??? , if so maybe this

Hand guards are Cycra Probends with side mounts that bolt directly to the upper triple clamp pinch bolts. It looks like raising the bars wouldn't allow for that type of mount without modifying the brackets.

Does it mount to the top of the bar clamp or the bottom ? , if its the top i dont think it would be a issue , you just swap that for the top bar clamp i would think , or get the inside mount that bolts directly to the bars like this

I just run the Moose Flex Guards on mine (the ones that pivot and do not wrap) , i have Acerbis guards that are full wrap , but prefer the Moose guards , and i ride a lot of tight single track , so i bang trees all the time , i basically do the same for my 450R , but use Polisport guards , but also have the full Acerbis wraps

This is my X riser height

This is my R riser height

You can see the 450X brake line , the stock R brake line was too short for this height

This is my friend i was talking about that is 6'6" , he is on a 450SXf , looks like he is on a 80 lol
