    Fuel screw disaster

    Well last week I asked about the fuel screw on my X. I have come to conclusion that there was no plug or there was a plug and I really F' d up bad.

    Crazy Brother was probably right that it was a 'D' shaped screw, I just couldn't see what it was and confused it for a plug being in there. The little aluminum stud in the hole screwed me up.

    I will swallow my pride and let this be known to help others see what happens when you really don't know what you're doing. I drilled out the plug (or the bottom of the fuel screw) and removed all the threads from the carb. body.

    I defiantly screwed the pooch on this one. How about a $650 dollar carb on a brand new CRF450X. I was devastated.

    Anyway's I turned it over the local Honda dealer and told them to go ahead and do whatever they have to do to make it like it never happened. I don't think I could live with it any other way.

    I really have to take a step back and think really hard about the mod's I want to do to this bike. I should have just left it alone and kept it stock. I really wanted to try to recreate what I did to my 06' X since it was such a nice bike.

    I don't want to pick up a wrench and try to do things myself anymore. On My 06' I put a Hot cam stage 2 cam in, exhaust, JD jet kit, CRF fuel screw all with no problem. Air box mod. Pink wire, Twin Air sealing ring. It ran really nice.

    On this new bike I put a Twin air sealing ring set-up on and the $240 dollar kit came from CRF's only with a ripped filter flange staight out of the sealed bag, THANKS! Anyway's there's my story, take from it what you will. Thanks Andy

    don't get discouraged and give up. we all learn from our mistakes! the more expensive ones of course will never be forgotten. anyways, i think you should consider retrieving the bike from the dealer, put on your big boy pants and fix the problem yourself for a variety of reasons. not the least of which is the satisfaction of fixing it yourself instead of someone else bailing you out, after all will that person be on the trail with you if you encounter any other problems? p.s. unfortuneatly i am able to post this today, at this time because rohwer flat o h v is closed due to budget cuts. thanks a lot for doing your job you useless rat bastards!

    Happens to everyone, I bought my new 2012X Thanksgiving last year, rode it once and decided to tear it down and grease all the bearings. To take off the swing arm I had to take off the brake pedal. I didn't realize there was a retaining pin on the backside and as I unthreaded the pedal bolt the pin stripped out all the threads. I felt like I got hit in the gut when the bolt finally came out followed by all the threads on my brand new bike. I panicked for about 15 minutes. Then I did some research and ordered a Time Sert kit (fancy heli-coil) from Amazon and fixed it. I haven't had a problem since with any other mods. Moral of the story, stuff happens, people make mistakes. When you do, learn your lesson and move on.

    You had the carb off correct ?? , you should have been able to tell if it was a plug or not then , a plug would never be down inside

    Too late now ,though you probably could have got a barely used 13 carb off EBay for about $200 , and saved yourself about $400 , i feel bad for you , that was a expensive mistake

    Aside from that , you still should be able to do the exact same things you did to your old bike

    Things happen , chock it up to experience (you now know better so it wont happen again) and move on and try again , if you did it on your old one you can do it on this one , its "basically" the same bike

    ROFL - did the exact thing on the '09 only was an air ratchet not an impact gun - let it spin a bit to long and clean out the threads. The +$900 price tag for a new frame was motivation to find an alternative. 4 years and the heli-coil has out lasted 2 seal sets.

    I have learned too... I don't make the same mistake twice... :oops:
    Now, the first thing I do before any work that i'm not sure about is to read the OEM Shop Manual and ask the experts on here and TT.
    Too bad you drilled it out, I was hoping that you had read my post before... Bummer.

    I don't know why I thought there was a plug in there. I can't believe I did that. Total brain lock. Crazy,your post was a day late. Its sucks but its fixed now and It runs nice. I'm a little gun shy about working on it now. I have a cam to put in soon. I hope I don't mess it up.
