    pro circuit exhaust mounting problem

    by skeely » Sat Oct 05, 2013 8:21 pm

tried to mount my pro circuit slip on exhaust today but ran into a slight hitch. the outside diameter of the mid pipe where it mounts into the stock headpipe is much smaller than the stock pipe it is replacing, hence the stock clamp does not tighten the two pipes as it should. is there a clamp my dealer should have clued me into or is the stock clamp not used ? the later does'nt seem right. any help from those with direct experience will be appreciated.

Sounds like the header gasket is stuck in your old mid pipe, or maybe you lost it.

hey riddler9. thanks for your interest. the stock exhaust does indeed have a gasket between the head and inside of the muffler mid assembly. the pro circuit mid pipe slides onto the stock head pipe directly with anti seize lube, a rather tight fit, no gasket required.

Okay, that is what I thought when i originally read your post but the unable to tighten got me thinking maybe you were trying to close the gap between the mid and the header, gap being from a missing gasket.

Unfortunately I have never purchased a PC slip-on so I cannot say for sure, but if it requires lube then I am guessing it does not take a clamp. Not all bikes use a clamp, e.g., my KTM just has a snug fit.

I've ran the Ti-4 slip on (same as the T-4) and now run the RC5 header and muffler combo (love it). As for that stock clamp: it is not used anymore. Your OEM muffler is made to collapse onto the end of your stock header via that clamp. Pro Circuit's is meant to snugly fit onto the header. I use high temp RTV silicone at that joint though, it could be overkill but it doesn't hurt.

Don't forget that you'll have to re-jet your bike now.
