I have the opportunity to purchase 2008 CRF450 triple clamp with dampner from a friend. Will this work on my 2005 CRF450X with the Baja Desins DS kit?
Thanks,
Rob

Yep, as long as you get both top and bottom.

Sweet! Any issues or modifications have to be made to fit the dampner?

You will need a way to mount the damper to your frame,
MxBonz makes such a kit but you'll need one designed for the 05-07 CRF450R as there is no 450X version offered. Before getting too excited be forwarned that this damper is not going to perform like the Scott's or GPR.
If your headlight is the OEM unit you will need to fabricate upper and lower mounting brackets and also odo mounts if using the Honda unit.

Ok, I checked out MXBonz and see what your saying. I have an aftermarket light from baja. Is there any other advantage to having the 08 triple other than the damper?

I can get the 08 triple, damper that has been proffesionally valved and the mounting kit for $200 less than a scotts or gpr. I will be dual sporting the bike. Probably 70% pavement/dirt/gravel roads and 30% trails. Would I really gain much benefit by spending the extra money for the scotts or gpr? In other words would the scotts and gpr be over kill?

Thanks, Rob

The Stock dampner is not an advantage... I thought you wanted it for the 22mm offset. If that was your reason for buying the triples, then I would pass and keep your stock triples and buy the Scotts with BRP submount from here... You will enjoy the ride much better with the Scotts over any other brand IMHO

completely agree with Crazybrother. the Scotts provides the best control and adjustability. if you are looking for stabilizer control put your money into a Scotts SUB mount rather than the '08 triple.

I see. Why is the 22mm offset advantageous?

better turning in most conditions. it plants the front end and is more responsive to steering input.

Is $275 a reasonable price these day for a 08 triple clamp (upper, lower and stem), revalved damper and mx bonz adapter? Its all in like new condition.

Edit: I think my money is probably better spent getting the ergos the best I can for being 6' 5" 220lbs. Fastway pegs, taller seat and higher bars.

For you guys that dual sport do you really find a steering stab to be a necessity?

if it's a stock triple clamp i wouldn't get it just for the offset and HPSD. i'd spend my money to get an aftermarket triple with the Scotts stabilizer. the Applied Racing stabilizer-ready top triple clamp kit with lower triple clamp and a Scotts stabilizer we offer will provide better steering control (triple does flex as much as the stock thereby keeping the forks/wheel pointed where you direct). the Scotts provides far superior stabilizer control.

For the type of riding I intend to do is a Scotts stab a necessity?

in my opinion it's a mandatory safety equipment. it has saved my bacon on more than one luau. ;-)

Hey I just saw this thread and it seems to answer my question but I just wanted to clarify something.
I have a 2006 CRF 450 X that I'm going to turn into a track bike. I saw in the previous thread that the 2008 CRF450R stock triple clamps will work on my X?.

Thank you!!
