    Who here night rides?

    by PhilM » Tue Jan 30, 2007 3:07 pm

I do a lot of night riding about 40% of my riding is at night. I was curious for thoese that night ride, have you tried a helmet mounted light? Did you like it or not.

    Thanks.

I have one from Niterider but honestly find it annoying. It can reflect on the dust and cause a noticeable cloud in your face. It's a bit disorienting to me. In the 24 hour race last year at Glen Helen I rode with it for a few laps but dumped it as the night went on. What I do like about it is the fact that it projects where you are looking so you get a wider field of vision.

Lights at night with dust are a pain. I run into the problem with my buggy in the sand. Very high powered pencil beam lights tend to cause reflection off the dust as nowazzu said. It's almost like driving through fog. Flood/Driving beams help with this by not focusing too much in one area.

I night ride a little, but only in the summer when it is too hot to ride during the day. I don't like riding at night in the winter. Too cold, even in SoCal.

Nothing better than riding to a destination, killing the lights and checking out the stars. I love it.

I don't have HID lighting. So I rely on the stock light, wired to the high beam, and usually go on wide trails with other buggies, quads, etc., so lack of lighting is usually not a problem.

I was considering the helmet light sold here, but don't think I can get used to the cord. But I may still buy it regardless and give it a try for the price. Who knows, it may make a big difference.

    I love the description...

    Xtreme White with XTRA Technology

Is that a little XTRA or a lot XTRA? Because for the money, I need a lot of XTRA technology...

hmmm I actaully really like riding with a helmet light because of my tendency to carry the front wheel over nasty stuff makes it a little hard to see when your headlight is pointed up in the tree tops

Some friends of mine ride at night. They were able to find some powerful lights in the Mountain Bike riding magazines. They are set up with helmet lights and extended battery packs. FYI

My stock 250X light is junk! There is no way i could ride without a helmet light at night. I love those things!
