im having to change my chain to a 520 kit for supermoto (new forged rims come with a sprocket that is a 520)
my question is do i need a different front sprocket? my understanding is it is thinner(stock one) then a 520 kit?
so will stock work or do i need a thicker one?and if i do where can i get it ?

Assuming you have the 450X you should be ok.
If I remember correctly when installing the 520 on the R you need to shim the front sprocket out away from the case.....

520 is the size of the chain. It has a pitch of 0.625".
They make narrow chains and standard chains, both 520. The X comes with a narrow chain typically indicated with a "T" (520T chain).
When using a standard chain (included would be O-ring and X-ring chains), you may need to shim the front sprocket. The shim or spacer is available anywhere for about $2.

Thanks 124. That D.I.D. VT t-ring chain we've all had such great service out of is available too,it's the same as the OEM X T-ring chain except it's gold,and being narrow it requires no shimming at all.
That is truly one hell of a chain,and is one of the first things I put on my R. Doug

No worries. It looked as if some folks were confused on what the numbers and indications of the chain were. I know the stock chain on my "R" was garbage...seems like the "X" chain was of higher quality.

Ain't that the truth. My R's chain stretched 3 times in 3hours when I first got it.
Not only is the X's chain better, it turns out that the VT narrow T-ring that comes with the X is one of the best chains you can buy ! There are a bunch of guys who have an incredible amount of time on these T-rings and they are wearing just great.My X had over 70 hours on it and that chain was still in great shape.
I had the T-ring that wound up on the R because like most people I assumed the stock chain on the X would be junk, and wasn't I surprised at how wrong I was.
It went right on the R ! Doug
