    Scotts Stabilizer

    by coljam » Thu Jan 25, 2007 7:48 pm

Disclaimer: I have searched the forums and have not seen my question answered explicitly.

I've got an 05 450x with stock bars. I also have a trail tech computer, which mounts forward of the bars.

I am planning on adding a Scotts stabilizer. However, when I look at the various mounting options, I find myself a tad confused.

Could someone simplify the "choosing" process a little?

    Thanks.

Here is a good thread concerning some mount options for the Trailtech if you decide to go for the submount:

After much searching and contemplating, I just ordered the Scotts with SUB mount for my '06. Can't wait to put it on... I will use my stock bars on the Scotts Under Bar (SUB) mount by using a new set of split bushings put out by BRP for a 1 1/8th bar mount while using stock 7/8th's bars. The bushings act like a shim for stock bars. Click here to see the BRP site with the SUB mount options, I ordered kit "B" and the new bushing. You'll still be able to use your stock triple clamp TOP clamp with this configuration. I figure that when (not "if") I bend the stock Renthals, I will simply remove them and put a good set of High Bend Fatties on there like Z did. If you call BRP toll free, they will gladly answer any questions you may have about your personal setup. They were very helpful to me...

    I hope this helps. #-o

BTW: Hey Z, where did you get those bar mounts, and what kind of knuckle busters are those? I'm in the market.

    Smash, (or others)

Are the Pastrana FMX "ATV Race" bend the highest made in the Contur bend?

If so, you must be a tall guy like me...

I need a set of those!

What is that large opaque 'tubing' running parallel to the bars?

okay ... let's see if I've been schooled.

    Basically I have 2 options:
    1. Submount the damper - this will effectively raise my bar height 25mm, but I can still use my stock bars.

    2. Bolt on top of bars -- this will keep my ride height as is, but because the stock bars need the cross member for stability, I would have to replace them with bars that do not require the cross-member.

Sound like I'm starting to get it?

So I looked at using the existing triple clamp mounting tabs for the stock odometer. I cut a strip of mild steel from some scrap sheet metal channel that I had from another project. I decided to make a rectangular "loop" at one end of the strip with a tab on the end of the loop so I could weld it closed. The offset let me center the Lynx relative to the bars even though the stock mounting tabs are off-center. I sized the "loop" to raise the mounting position to exactly where I wanted it while keeping the Lynx below the top of the number plate.

Looks like Fat Boy made a custom mount
01' WR250F mods and dollars added
    06' 450X
