    Applied sub mount question

    by jcc4299 » Thu Jan 18, 2007 10:49 am

I am installing an applied racing tripple clamp with sub-mount and I'm having a problem with the scotts lower rubber mounts hitting the post bracket.
it's the same problem pete k had on his review of this product.
did anybody else have this problem.
if so what did you do.

We just had this problem on my Dad's bike yesterday. It turned out that he actually had the wrong post mount for his bike. Make sure you have the correct smaller washers over the rubber bushings. The larger stock washers may just be your problem.

If you could snap and pic and post it that may help us determine your issue better.

Funny thing I never had a problem with mine it went together very easily. Are you sure you have the proper mounting post? The applied submount is molded after the brp one they are exactly the same thing.

I orderd everything from ken and all the part #s are correct. and I did use the smaller rubber mounts that were included.
it is hitting in the same exact way that pete k shows in this post-

Not to thread jack, but would I need to change my Scotts mounting post/hardware to go from stock triples to Applied 22m?

first, make sure your bolt-on tower is seated completely. second, make sure you are using the supplied rubber cones on the underside of the triple clamp. third, make sure you are torquing the bar mount bolts (d-bolts) to the correct spec. if they are torqued correctly the cones won't fully seat and will make contact. same with the bolt-on tower. forth, as stated make sure you are using the supplied washers. if you've done all of these then i'm puzzled as well.

well I double checked everything and it all checks out.
I went ahead and ground some of the post bracket away as pete k described in his review and it is all together. I also had to shave the cones and just a bit of the upper clamp.
the only safety risk to all of this is the modification of the cones.

I really did not want to shave the cones down but it was the only way this would work.

I had the same problem. I also ground a small section of both sides of the post base to allow turn to the stops. Not a problem and the base is very substantial at the location requiring minor grinding .... no sweat.

no on the post, but yes on the bar top clamp. Unfortunately, Applied used different bar mount spacing from stock triples.

Just FYI even on my stock triples I had to file just A hair on the underside of the top triple clamp itself.
It even calls out this procedure in the Scotts installation
manual so dont worry it wont hurt A thing :)

So if I just got these,

and under stabilizer mount, I select Scotts, thats all I would need to get it to work with my existing set-up?

the link above allows you to select the Applied Scotts Under Bar Mount. This would give you a new triple clamp with the SUB mount. you would still need a stabilizer AND a bolt on tower. if you have a stabilizer it must have the control arm mounted in the reverse position. if you have a bolt-on tower it must be the SUB mount bolt-on tower as the post needs to be much shorter than the post for the top mounted stabilizer mounts. if you need both of these you would purchase this:

we also offer just the stabilizer:

as well as just the post mount:

    hope this helps.

Same here, the X and the R with both Applied and BRP set-ups.
I used a Dremel with a carbide routing bit and it only takes a few minutes to do the job.it's really easy to see where material needs removed. Doug

Thats awesome, thanks Ken! I have the damper with Scotts and SUB mount already for my stock triples and have been seriously wanting to look into the 22mm triples but I was thinking I may possibly have to get a new bolt on tower for this.

keep in mind the bolt-on towers are bike model and year specific and a SUB mount needs to have the same spacing between mount bolts as on found on your triple clamp. stock and brp are 106mm. applied racing is 100mm.
