I would really try to upgrade to some Pro Taper fatbars.

The only one I have seen done that way is Slick's bike. He just cut the pad up.

I believe the post of the Scotts (attached to the actuating arm) needs to be centered over the triples stem ... can't tell if that is the case or not in the photo.

Looks a little off to me. You better check to see if you got the post lined up correctly.

just remove the top and there you go. You have fatbar style in a 7/8" bar. I dont know how sturdy or safe it will be but it will work. I also suggest buying adapters fro the stock mounts and a fatbar

OK, I'm in. Can someone post a link to some Protaper bars that are closest to the stock 450x bend? Thanks.

the Carmichael bend is the closest pro taper bend to the stock renthal 971 bend. on the photo and original question, this is one of the ways you can mount a scotts. the pivot point is the same regardless of the orientation of the control arm. you could also mount it the other way but you'd have to "bow" your crossbar. i too agree that if you are moving to a stabilizer it's a good time to upgrade to the fat bars.

If you decide to go with the submount and Protapers - keep in mind that the submount also increases the height of your bars so you may want to take this into consideration when selecting your bar profile.

Thanks all. One more question: If I go with the carmichael fat bars, will I need to get new mounting hardware for my Acerbis guards?

yes you will need new mounting hardware if you go with fat bars and if the inner most mount of the handguards mount to the bar.

killaz brings up a good point if you go with the sub mount and you want the stock "grip height" then you need the RM-Lo bend from Pro Taper as the SUB mount raises the bar mount point one inch. the RM Lo bend will compensate for this increased height.

I cut a small section of the foam out on my pad and put the pad cover on forst then the foam, fits fine but looks a little strange where the foam part is cut out..

Hey 450X if you checked out the link that ~ put up you will see my damper setup with the stock bars
and x-bar pad which I notched(except forgot to clean off the black felt marks after cutting)and the setup works great,it is tight but secure as hell.If you go to my garage youll see another picture from the back of the bike how it looks from A distance.

I have A question, how come some scott dampers have OHLINS stamped on the side and others have SCOTTS??

PS your pic does look off center.anyway have fun theres alot of choices on setup but the cool thing is that the damper works great with all of them.
