Street Legal crf450x in New Mexico

    by rv457 » Mon Jan 08, 2007 9:25 am

I have an 05 CRF450x and live in New Mexico. As far as I have been able to figure out it is impossible to make a dirt bike street legal in New Mexico. I have visited two DMV offices and two rapid MVD offices. They all say NO.

    I have two questions:
    1) Has anyone been able to get a street title and plate for dirt bike since 2005? If so, how? My understanding is that NM used to be pretty easy but the laws changed a few years ago.
    2) Here is my idea. A CRF450X chopper. Hear me out before you click away... It seems that it is possible to buy a chopper frame, stick an engine it, build it up and get a license plate and title. The chopper frame comes with a certificate of origin from which a title can be derived. Well, how about buying an aftermarket crf450x frame (does one exist?) with a certificate of origin from which I could install all of my crf450x parts. I could then take the crf450x (w/ turn signals and other crap) and the certificate of origin and get it registered as a custom made (home made) motorcycle. Your thoughts?

Why am I hasseling with this? Because I want to get a supermoto kit and be able to race around on the street.

    Thanks,
    ...Robert

Sounds like what they call special Construction here in Cali. See what the special construction procedures are. call a local builder and pick his brain.

What about AZ? know anybody there with an address you could use to register?
