450x on a motocross track yesterday!

    by rolldabonz » Sun Jan 07, 2007 6:23 pm

Hi everyone. Yesterday I arrived to my local enduro track and it was way too muddy to actually ride it. So, having a motocross track I have never ridden right besides the tight trails, I decided to give it a shot with my 450x.

It has been about 10 years since I´ve raced a motocross track and the feeling was great. I could only nail about half the jumps but the feeling of flying through the air was awesome. However, the huge finish line table top with a flat landing was the only jump I didnt even want to try. The bike felt sooo heavy I felt that I could even brake my wrists and ankles on the landing. I was really proud of the bikes handling and how it felt on the curves and berms. Anyone has taken the bike to the motocross track?

    Happy riding!

do it all the time. i have a 450r as well as a 450x but usually take both. later in the day (read: when i'm tired) i actually prefer the 450x as it does pull as hard/fast as the 450r. the suspension is a bit soft however for mx tracks but the bike handles well on the ground and in the air.

Mine is actually setup more for MX. It is a bit on the heavy side, but does well.

The only bike I own is the X and I take it the track every so often. I love it. It doesn't feel nimble in the corners but the rest doesn't bother me at all.

No way I'm riding that on the big track. I rode it on the PeeWee MX track last night and my wrists and ankles are sore. Talk about no suspension. Anything over a foot high bottoms it out.... Time for suspension upgrades.

Thats true Smash. I did not even want to try the huge table top with a flat landing. Its way too heavy. However, I am seriously considering getting another bike for the motocross track. I love the 450x on the trails, but need another bike for the track.

As soon as the injected R comes out I'm all over it as a track bike.

I raced mine last season in plus 40 and Vet Master MX. It handles the tracks fine. This winter I'm getting the suspension done for MX and set for my weight ( 220lb.) This will make a huge difference - not like I'm doing triples but i've had my share of hard landings.

I didnt think the X was THAT heavy? I mean, compared to the CR250 i didn't notice much in weight difference at all and definatly knew mine pulled harder in every gear.

I also kinda liked the way the bike felt on the track, after 20 laps of constant riding as hard as me and a few buddies did, i was the only one that kept going all 20, they let off every few laps. The track had alot of doubles, 2 of them were over 40ft and it had one triple - didn't get to hit it before they closed down the track.

Everyone thinks its a Trail Bike.... Hah.. when they were wore out from riding and had to kick there bikes to go at it again, i just pushed the button and laughed.

    i know i prefer the X over a CR250, haven't rode a 450R yet.

I used to ride a cr250, and its nice to have a plush suspension for a change. I too loved the long gears on long straightaways, the CRFx pulls harder than any 2 stroke I ever had.

I had trouble braking hard on corners so instead of smashing on the brakes, I just down shifted a few meters before the corner and the bike handled beautiful. However, no whoopies for me. I dont feel strong enough (yet) to handle the crf through the whoops section. The CRF is no trail bike.

Well if if felt heavy, I don't think it feels as heavy as a xr600r on the track. This is great info, although have not purchased the 450x, I really appreciate this, it helps my decision, still curious about the 525exc, I live in central michigan, no 450x around, does anyone live in this area?
