Crashed Hard!! Now water in oil?

by Bamm Bamm » Mon Dec 18, 2006 10:34 am

I crashed pretty hard hillclimbing yesterday while tuning the stage 2 cam. I ended up getting thrown from the bike and it tipped over and ran for about 20-30seconds upside down before I could get back to it. Now it leaked oil allover the motor of course.. I had to ride it back up the hill and back to the truck. When I got there was barely any oils in the case .. The tranny was at perfect level. SO I drained the rest of the oil out of the motor and filled it back to spec with new oil. and rode it for an hour or so.. When i got home i changed it again and the filter also(didn't have one with me in the tool box)..and there was still a lil water in there and it still looked a bit milky. at least 50% better than before though.. Now should I be worried? The bike is running like a raped ape right now. I have it really dialed and can pull a wheelie at any speed in any gear(just how I like it). But I'm just wondering if theres anything else I should check? DId I blow the water pump seal or ? Thanks

I had this car once that did awesome 50ft posi burn outs...Whipped anything in a drag race. The engine revved to the moon and back....Then it turned #7 rod bearing.

Cant for the life of me think how you got water in your oil unless you blew a head or water pump gasget...That doesnt sound good.

Is your radiator low? are you losing coolant? Could you have gotten water in the motor on a previous ride, and maybe just now noticing it? If you have coolant in the oil, it should be going down. OFG

the coolant actually seems to be right where I normally run it thats the strange thing???? I'm wondering maybe if what happened is that maybe it isn;'t actually water causing the nasty looking oil and maybe some how oil from the clutch side came over??? Wait nah that wouldn't be since the clutch oil was amazing clean and not jacked up looking for once?? I wonder if something was wearing inside due to lack lubrication since the oil was bearing even registering on the dipstick when I checked it originally...??? I have a feeling I'm going to pull it apart a bit tonight and check the looks of the top end out at least.. LMK if there's anything else I should check. I think I'll get my compression tester back from my buddy and check that also.. It was at 58 earlier..

could it be assembly lube you used putting in the new cam? since you coolant level seems ok. Just a thought

Good call...Most lubes of that type are Lithium based and will cause a milky discoloration in the oil.

Makes sense since your coolant level is not dropping. Problem solved! OFG

So it's running damned near perfect I think the problem is solved it seems like it might still be leaking some oil from the top of the motor somewhere best I can tell is it's from one of four places
    1. valve cover gasket
    2. might've creaped up the valve cover bolts(there seems to be a small puddle of oil in the right front one)
    3. out the breather hole in the head next to my smog pump blockoff plate.
    4. out the exhaust flange??(I think it just puddled there though and hopefully that isn't the case)

So I'm going to actually degrease it sunday morning and then for a bit of a ride if I can talk my wife into letting me out of the house. Maybe I'll just go to the motocross track and bring her to film=) and then see where were at.
Thanks again everyone I appreciate all your replys

drain it bb and keep an eye on it. If you change your oil a couple of times and the milky oil doesn't come back, I think you are safe.

if it comes back, you got problems
