Finally got the baffle out, but don't like the sound...

Using CrazyBrother's advice, I finally got the baffle out. Now that I have it out, I'm not that crazy about how the bike sounds. It's not that it's too loud, it just sounds cheesy to me--kind of like my 1969 Taco minibike.

So...I cut the two plates off the baffle and put it back in. With that mod, it sounds the same as stock to me--I was hoping it would sound a little "meaner".

I was at a dealer last week, and a mechanic was prepping a new yzf450. Now that bike sounded downright angry.
Does anyone know what aftermarket header/slip on combo will make the x sound similar to the Yamaha?

Actually the new YZF450 has the quietest exhaust they have had in a long time, the 07CRF450 has a quieter pipe too than prior years.
I didn't like the way ny X sounded either with the baffle removed, some guys don't mind it.
There is more to sound than just decibels too, with my X I installed a Yoshimuta TRS with spark arrestor and loved the sound, it was a deeper sound I thought was great. Sow pips have a 'shrill" sound that is flat annoying to me, and that's what I thought the X pipe without insert sounded like.
My R has the Akrapovic I got here from Ken, and it too has a deep sound that is great to me.
If you want to mimic the sound of that YZ there are a number of great pipes out there, a pipe off an 05 CRF450R would do it too. With a ProMoto Billet spark arrestor on it if you need one it should sound pretty good. Doug

I bought this because it was easy and fairly cheap. It sounds very nice and I always get compliments and it's not too loud. The mounting screw has come loose twice so I thread locked it.

Put a PMB quiet insert in there...I did it to both my X's and love the way they sound. Didnt hear if any one else who rode the nightmare had any comments on it. I think it sounded just like any one elses with an after market slip on.

I did the R can like PT said. The promoto billit end cap has a USFS SA. I put the 96Db insert in mine and love it.

If DD is running the same pipe I am (E2 with sparky insert) then he is 96 db. If your close, I would say you are too.

I did notice that I can hear my engine running now. With the baffle out, I was blissfully unaware and that cam chain sound and ticking coming from the front of the bike. So I guess the E2 is a little quieter.

dlpmx, Did the R can change where the power is delivered compared to the stock X pipe? Also, are you running the stock X headpipe with the R can? Thanks in advance for any feedback. Ernie
