Did you hear about the bull shark that attacked that guy at Rowher Flats? I think it killed the guy. They caught it the next day and killed it. Maybe Ken will kill this thread.

thought that I would add just a little to this. I used to live in Texas along the Gulf Coast. We had the same Hurricanes as Louisiana. They do not sneak up on you. They are somewhat unpredictable due to changing courses and strengthening or weakening without notice.

Having said that, when we knew that one was headed our way, we boarded up and got the hell out of there. A lot of time it didn't hit as predicted or had weakened so the damage was limited to the inevitable tornadoes and flooding (which is usually the true issue with a hurricane). We would come back when it was clear and survey the damage. Sometimes a lot or maybe a little. It's just what you did as a rule.

Interestingly enough, and how this ties in to the subject, the people that got the worst were the ones that lived in the flood plane. Also, invariably, they were the group that evac'ed the least.

This was a repeated scenario when I moved into Houston. There was always flooding along the river and there were always folks needing rescue and handouts because of it.

History repeats itself, so does mother nature. If you grow complacent or just don't care, then you will be a victim. What kind of victim you are depends largely on you. Completely unpredictable events are an exception as we all are going to be a victim and most will not be prepared.

If theres an earthquake here in Cali I will act completely surprised since I have prepared for nothing,(what? earthquakes in California?) loot, steal and cheat my way to a $2000 debit card. Then I will be seen on TV demanding FEMA issue an apology why they didn't PREDICT the earthquake, go on ABC and get a house makeover turning my 2000 sq. ft house into a palace, cry and hug Ty Pennington (oh yeah and grope the especially hot blonde chick) then sell my story to the Enquirer. I will use the $2000 debit card to bling my X, get drunk on all the hootch I stole, and live happily ever after in my new palace.
Can we name an earthquake? Then the media will have a catchphrase for all its sordid stories and video: Hurricane "Hank" wallops the west coast: Video at 11....
This isn't politics..its common sense (or lack thereof...)
Help those who need the help, America always does that, and I hope always will.
But the disgusting sense of entitlement, the looting, the pathetic wretches who leech off the govt from birth to death, and the losers who always turn a terrible disaster like this into political forum to try an oust a government they couldn't defeat at the voting booth make me sick. Thats not "my' America.....
